Part-time administrator

We are looking to recruit a part-time administrator as soon as possible to support the work of Laamiga, a small friendly charity formed in 2010, working in Islington and Camden. This is a new role and will give particular support on a community leadership project. Laamiga helps migrant, refugee and ethnic minority women to achieve financial independence and satisfying work through personal mentoring and training.

This part-time administrator role is a self-employed freelance position, working from your own home, with planning and supervision meetings with Laamiga’s Co-ordinator and contact with other volunteers, trustees and mentees.

1) Responsibilities

The tasks may include the following
• Liaise by telephone and email with the Co-ordinator
• Carry out administrative tasks relating to Laamiga projects and organisation
• Keep records of expenditure
• Prepare agendas and take minutes for meetings
• Assist the Co-ordinator in organising workshops and events
• Format reports and prepare presentations
• Undertake information searches
• Update content of website including updating the twitter account
• Represent the Co-ordinator on occasions at local meetings or mentor recruitment fairs
You will also be expected to
• Maintain confidentiality
• Show commitment to Laamiga’s Equal Opportunities and other policies

2) Essential skills

These skills and experience are essential for the post:

• Excellent communication skills in English, both orally and in writing
• Good level of numeracy
• Wide experience in using email and internet to communicate and research information
• Confidence in the use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and in formatting documents
• Ability to work unsupervised and to use initiative
• Good interpersonal skills for successful team working
• Interest in working towards integration and equality for women from minority backgrounds

3) Desirable experience

• Experience of the voluntary sector
• Experience of working with staff and volunteers from diverse backgrounds
• Experience of project work
4) Contractual arrangements

Your contract as part-time administrator will be initially for six months, with the possibility of extension, funding permitting. You will work freelance as a contractor, so will be responsible for your own tax, National Insurance, and other costs arising from self-employment. You will be covered by Laamiga’s professional indemnity insurance. You may use Laamiga’s laptop if necessary for the work.
Hours will be in the region of 4 hours per week. They can be worked on a flexible basis, but the administrator should be available to respond to emails as agreed outside these hours.
You will report to Laamiga’s part-time Co-ordinator.

Rate of pay: £12 per hour. Travel costs and other agreed expenses will be reimbursed.
