Read the interview below to gain insight into the mind of one of our Mentors.

Q1: How long have you been or were you with Laamiga?  Mentor: A year and a half to date.

Q2: What drew you to Laamiga? Mentor:  An intentional plan to give back to society by offering support pro bono to others who need it the most.

Q3: What progress, changes, or achievements have your mentee made - big or small?

Mentor: Pursued personal goals around education and ideas for a personal business. The mentee enrolled in a university course of interest to her and explored a business plan around using these additional skills. Other benefits include increased self-confidence and self-knowledge. She also developed increased self-trust and the confidence to pursue jobs that align with her innate interests.

Q4: What advice would you give people looking to support their local community?  Mentor:  Invest in people. Help them identify their greatest needs, then help them to achieve these. Empower them and help to source resources where needed. Allow them the autonomy to decide in which direction they want to go and how to self-advocate.

Q5: What's been your highlights of the last year with Laamiga?  Mentor:   Being available to support a woman within a mentoring capacity for a whole 12 months. The time frame helps to make a difference in building genuine connections and supporting sustainable change.

Q6: What have you done above and beyond your mentor commitment to support your mentee? Mentor: Be available as often and as long as the mentee needed to connect as she worked through issues.
